If you receive anything claiming to be from WCNet that contains an attachment
DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT!

WCNet will NEVER send an email containing an attachment!

Your Password has not been reset and your Account has not been suspended!

There have been times when WCNet subscribers have received an email supposedly from webmaster@wcnet.org saying their password has been reset or their account has been suspended. Webmaster will never send you an email saying this. These emails are a virus. DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT that comes with the email. Just delete the email. If your account had been suspended or your password changed, you would not have received the email in the first place. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we combat these viruses and spammers. For more information regarding this read some of the articles and links below.

What is Spam and How Do I Avoid It?

Spam activity has been on the rise lately due to the fact that spammers are constantly updating their methods.
The latest is that they include their message in an image that is imbedded in the email.
This allows their message to get through many spam filters that look for certain spam related text.
Anti-spam vendors are working on solutions but it will take time.

Virus Advisories

March 7, 2008:

A new twist on the emails that appear to be from WCNet has presented itself. If you receive an email saying that your account is going to be deleted, if you do not send your personal information back to us, that is another form of Phishing. They are trying to get your information for the purpose of identity theft or to sell your information to spammers. Do not reply to this email or send them any information.

Example:

This message is from Wcnet messaging center to all Wcnet email account owners. We are currently upgrading our data base and e-mail account center. We are deleting all unused Wcnet email account to create more space for new accounts.

To prevent your account from closing you will have to update it below so that we will know that it's a present used account.

Warning!!! Account owner that refuses to update his or her account within Seven days of receiving this warning will lose his or her account permanently.

What is Phishing?

If you have received an email from any financial institution or companies such as eBay requesting your account information through email. You have been Phished!

If you have an account with any business regarding finances, they already have your personal information and will never request the information by email or online. Someone is trying to get your information to steal your money, credit or your identity. If you have a question about this contact the organization that you supposedly received the email from before doing anything. You will probably find out that the email is a scam.

For more information regarding Phishing, check out this site:
http://www.antiphishing.org/

From time to time an email comes out claiming to have a fix for a specific virus attached to it.
These warnings sometimes contain the following footer:

*-* AntiVirus: Found to be clean
*-* "WCNET" Anti-Virus Service
*-* http://www.wcnet.org

WCNet will never add a signature at the bottom of any email that goes through our server!

No legitimate company (WCNet, Microsoft, Norton, McAfee, etc)
will ever send you a virus or worm fix as an attachment!

If you want an update from Microsoft go to the link above.
If you want virus protection updates, go to one of the links listed below.
NEVER open attachments that claim to be Virus or Worm fixes!
